Another artsy active Almonte summer begins…

Sure, the nights are cool and summer officially begins on the 21st, but can’t you smell it in the air? Almonte’s summer is getting started… because with June comes Mississippi Mills Bicycle Month! Find full listings at, but the most important date right now is Saturday, June 6… but I’m getting ahead of myself, because what about Friday night?
The-General-Susie-OslerTonight (Fri, Jun 5), 7-9pm, drop in at General Fine Craft, Art & Design for the opening of Susie Osler’s exhibit of new works in ceramics and mixed media — Memento Mori, Memento Anima: Remembering Death in Life. [You may know Susie for some places such as Brooke Valley, Fieldwork, and theHumm!] The General is feeling the joy of summer too, so bring a lawn chair and we’ll spill over onto the sidewalk! Ok… if it doesn’t rain…

fabricSaturday… we start quietly. Crafters (especially quilters) will want to browse the Textile Museum’s Fabric Sale (2-4pm), then go to the Almonte Library for 4pm to join the MM Family Bicycle Club for a talk by Kathleen Wilker and family. Kathleen works at Ottawa’s EnviroCentre and is a regular contributor to Momentum Magazine. This talk is part of the library’s travelogue series. And then…

ET on bikeSaturday night: bike in, hike in, or yes, even drive in to downtown Almonte for one heck of a cool event! For all ages! We are SHUTTING DOWN the bottom of Mill Street for a potluck RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN!  When do you get to do THAT? Bring a potluck item, your own plate/mug/cutlery, and a smile downtown for 6pm. There will be talking and eating and bike games for kids and adults… and live music by Hey Buster… and a bike-in outdoor movie at dusk. Yes, you heard me, we will be watching E.T. and eating supper on Mill St. On. The. Street.
