Well, the count-down clock on the Stewart Park Festival website says it all – in less than two days, Perth’s beautiful park fills up with music, activities, vendors, and happy, happy people! This year’s event kicks off on Friday, July 17 at 1pm and runs until Sunday afternoon (including awesome After Hours concerts at local pubs and venues on Friday and Saturday nights). And although donations are most welcome, admission to the park is still free!
You’ll find multi-piece bands like the Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra, My Son the Hurricane, Quique Escamilla and The Boxcar Boys, as well as soaring songstresses like Catherine MacLellan, Sweet Alibi, and Kelly Prescott. Be dazzled by the musical wizardry of Maneli Jamal (guitar), Fretless (fiddles and cello) and The Visit (cello and voice), as well as local stars Peter Brown Quintet. You’ll also hear Maritime favourites Dave Gunning and Matthew Byrne, and the fiddling and stepdancing of The Ballagh Bunch. See them on the Main Stage, hear them collaborate on the Wendy Laut River Stage, or catch some acts at the Perth Brewery Patio at the Crystal Palace.
In addition to the music, you’ll find artisans, delicious food and activities in the park, and even two special free children’s shows taking place at the Studio Theatre across the street. The weather forecast is looking fine, so grab your lawn chair and sunscreen, and head on over!
