Whether you want to drop your teens at the midway, introduce your children to farm animals, shop ’til you drop, eat pancakes, buy farm-fresh food, or maybe all of the above, plan a trip to downtown Almonte this weekend (Jul 18-19).
The Almonte Fair is in full swing, with everything from pony rides to ferris wheel rides, live music to musical fruit (“beans, beans, the musical fruit…”). Saturday brings children’s games, livestock shows, the Chili Cook-off, Outhouse Races, trampoline shows, and live music. Sunday brings some of the same, plus the Baked Bean Cook-Off and more.
On Saturday, 18 downtown merchants are offering you a great deal: buy something at any of the participating shops and you get a $5 coupon to use on your next $25 purchase at any of those shops the rest of the day — even at that same shop! It’s a Shop Crawl, people!
Let the Mississippi Mills Fire Dept. feed the entire family Saturday morning at their annual Pancake Breakfast (7-11am; $6 adults, $4 under 12, discount if you are in PJs). Yes, you have an excuse not to get dressed and not to make breakfast!
From there, head to the Almonte Farmers’ Market in the library parking lot for local produce, baked goods, and more. Last Saturday there were beets, peas, raspberries, green onions, lettuce, rhubarb, preserves, decadent squares, plants… and this Sat is also knife sharpening day!
