An invitation from Miss Mills:
Come on out to Almonte this weekend (Nov 7–8), and start your Xmas shopping with the artisanal triad of Handmade Harvest Holiday Craft Show (Old Town Hall, Sat. 9–4, Sun. 10–3, different vendors each day, $2 admission), the Christmas in the Valley Artisan Show (Community Centre, Sat./Sun. 10–4), and the Almonte Potters’ Guild’s Pottery Sale (95 Bridge St., Sat./Sun. 10–5). Insider tip #1: park somewhere in between — the parking lot behind the Bank of Montreal or by the Library, so you can pop to your car between shows to drop off your purchases. This ain’t my first craft rodeo, ya know. Insider tip #2: start at Handmade Harvest, first thing, as the first 50 people get a great “swag bag”.
Note: if you love Light Up The Night (and who doesn’t), you’ll want to buy yourself a limited
edition pewter keepsake ornament (sold as a fundraiser on the ground floor below the Christmas in the Valley Artisan Show).
Art lovers will need to visit The General, Sivarulrasa Gallery, JB Arts, Lola Dot and the Textile Museum to check out their current shows, and this weekend you can also check out artist Rosemary Leach’s open house!
Plan to grab some lunch or supper while you’re here. If you don’t have much time, then maybe coffee and a wrap at Palms, a Nanaimo bar from Baker Bob’s, a sandwich or pizza slice from one of our purveyors of yummy fast food… Or sit down and rest a spell at Café Postino, Mill St. Crepe Co, Heirloom Café/Bistro or the Barley Mow (maybe make a reservation to avoid disappointment!). This will ensure you have the energy to visit all of our great Almonte shops as well! Grab some meat from Don’s Meat Market some treat from Peches et Poivre, some fresh veg from Dandelion and a bag of coffee from Equator and you’re ready for supper!
Note: Not to blow my own horn, but… you may have seen posters of moi around town, as I am one of the stars of Fern Martin’s new play: Trashdance. Get your tickets at Baker Bob’s for the performances at the Old Town Hall next weekend. Or see it earlier: Nov 6, 7:30pm in Pakenham; Nov 7, 7:30pm in Clayton!
Have a great weekend!
