Celebrate spring and trees at Arbour Week events in the Almonte area, April 18-24.
Kids often have a favourite tree: the oak they climb, the weeping willow they hide under, the sugar maples they help tap, the spruce they hang lights on, the neighbour’s apple tree that provides snacks, the lilacs that scent their walk to the bus stop… Fall in love with trees all over again during Arbour Week in Mississippi Mills, at free walks, rides, talks and displays.
Monday, April 18, 10am at Fortune Farms, enjoy a WALK with Ray Fortune.
Tuesday, April 19, 6pm, meet Ron Ayling, Andy Brown and Ed Lawrence at Metcalfe Park (which is on Ottawa St., near the bottom of Mill St., in Almonte) for a WALK up Bay Hill, along Malcolm to Glass, through to Strathburn.
Wednesday, April 20, 7pm at Almonte’s Old Town Hall, hear Mike Yee, manager of biology and water quality for Rideau Valley Conservation Authority TALK about the wetlands of Mississippi Mills and their conservation. There you will also be able to see DISPLAYS of the beautiful tree art of Nancy Young and Elizabeth Veninga.
Finish the week with a BIKE RIDE and TALK with Cornelius Berg and the Mississippi Mills Family Bicycle Club: meet at Almonte’s Augusta St. Park at 2pm on Sunday, April 24, then cycle out to Blakeney for a guided walk through the Fish & Game Club Park.
